GasNet goes KernMobile

GasNet is a natural gas network and metering business located in Wanganui with gas networks in the Wanganui, Rangitikei and South Taranaki regions.

Following the roll-out of its Geographic Information System (GIS) in 2007, GasNet went to the market to establish what products were available that could provide electronic solutions to enhance its existing business and asset management systems, which at that time were predominantly spreadsheet and paper based.

In 2008, GasNet invited KernMobile to provide a demonstration of its product, the upshot of which was KernMobile being asked to submit a proposal for the implementation of the core system complete with mobile capability. Having taken the time to determine what was needed and what would best suit the scale and extent of its operation, GasNet made the decision to proceed with KernMobile in 2010.

What particularly appealed to GasNet throughout the evaluation of the KernMobile application and other applications, was that KernMobile offered simplicity of use combined with extensive flexibility and functionality. Equally attractive was the ease with which Kern could customise the system to meet GasNet's specific needs.

Phase one, which comprises customisation and implementation of the core system and two mobile devices is on track for completion mid year. Once the core and mobile systems are established and proven, GasNet intends to extend the mobile solution across its entire field based activities and operatives.
